US 1860 ERA CAVALRY OFFICER’S SABRE

$1,249.99

I bought this sword as part of an estate that had many validated Civil War Artifacts, and was told this item is legitimate, however it is unmarked. I was told it was made by Ames, so I will provide generic information on the Ames Sabre below. I cannot validate that this sword is made by Ames, so I am selling it at a greatly reduced price.

The Ames Manufacturing Company, a manufacturer of swords, tools and cutlery in Chicopee, Massachusetts. Ames was also involved in iron and bronze foundry. Ames was a major provider of swords, light artillery and heavy ordnance in the Civil War. Established in 1774 in Chelmsford, Mass. by the Ames family by brothers Nathan and James. By 1829 the brothers moved their business to a location on the Chicopee River in Springfield. By the time the Civil War started the Ames Company was the biggest producer of military items for the Union.

This wartime Ames sabre was the style used to Federal Officers during the American Civil War. Officers would have to supply their own sabres, this one being produced by the Chicopee Mass. firm. Known as the Model 1860 Light Calvary Officers Sabre that was initially called the “new pattern” 1860 Sabre.
