General Info:

The Colt M1911, designed by John Browning, is a semi-automatic pistol that served as the standard-issue sidearm for the United States armed forces from 1911 to 1985. In 1913, the Colt 1911 underwent some changes based on feedback from the military, leading to the designation “Model of 1911, US Army.” These changes included a shorter trigger, a wider front sight, a longer grip safety spur (to prevent hammer bite), and other minor modifications.

Colt manufactured the M1911 for the military and continued to do so until 1945, with various contractors also producing the firearm during World War II. The M1911 saw extensive use in World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, among other conflicts. It was eventually replaced by the Beretta M9 in 1985.

The M1911 is renowned for its ruggedness, reliability, and stopping power, owing to its .45 ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol) cartridge. It remains popular among civilian shooters, law enforcement agencies, and some military units worldwide. The M1911 has also been the basis for many other pistol designs and continues to be a symbol of American firearms history.
